Overview It's a classic California town without all the headaches. From a lower cost of living to a quicker commute, Sacramento has an edge over its larger California counterparts. Even with a fast-growing population, including many Eastern European and Southeast Asian immigrants, the River City has managed to keep its small-town atmosphere. The city Neighborhood Services Department, now in its second year, is designed to manage city services for and with the residents for the betterment of the communities. Many of the city's programs are based on the knowledge that residents invest more than just money in their neighborhoods. They invest their hearts. Historic sites include the refurbished Capitol, which is surrounded by the carefully manicured Capitol Park, Sutter's Fort and Old Sacramento, the riverfront terminus of the Pony Express. Visitors and residents alike should sample the city's cultural offerings, which include the ballet, several theater companies, a symphony orchestra and the Crocker Art Museum. It is the oldest art museum in the western United States and a portion of it occupies a well-tended Victorian home that once belonged to the Crocker family.
